1.....RICKEY DALE says.....

well shane did as he expected in the olympics...........he placed 10th and broke two american records...he is on record to say watch out for 2004............

thanks again for all the pics and ideas to put into this newsletter.........you make it......doing it weekly takes time and i always seem to be out of ideas........so keep them coming........

big jamie harris is about to give another try at the big 800 lb bench real soon.....will he make it...stay tuned and up to date and we will let you know..

will quickly explain one of the reasons i forwarded everyone a little sheet about gore.......as a powerlifter....as a weightlifter as someone who buys supplements...etc...it is very important who you support and vote for.............what most of you do not remember is that about 15-20 years ago the democrats in congress with the fda people they appointed, tried to make all vitamins and minerals...etc available by prescription............thankfully it did not happen but there is a push to do so again.....personal responsibility and accountability should be in the forefront of every athlete's mind..................i want control over what i put in my body...not congress or the president..........or especially a bureaucratic f.d.a.

this should concern every athlete in this country.......this has nothing to do with safety factors only factors of control (i think most of the people in this country need to reread 1984 and see we are way past that point.......

you make the choice how you vote........but i want to retain control over what i put into my body and keep it at a reasonable price....do you want to pay 50.00-100.00 for some supplement you use to pay 10.00-20.00 for....if it comes under the control of the f.d.a you will.........

i am taking no chances.....when i forwarded the e-mail on gore..i received about 100 or so favorable comments......about 10 comments on what is the reason for this...and about 10 people who wanted to have their name removed from the subscription list.....i complied...thanking them for their interest and concern.........politics has every thing to do with many of things that involve us in our athletic ventures......be aware........debate and adversarial combat is the american way.........just do not go off crying about me sending you an e-mail......be an athlete..stand for something........every routine is not the best routine...every type of form and style and technique is not the best...every type of supplement is not for everyone.......but if one is truly trying to be a champion and become the best they can be...we trade info and go on our way.....

..we do not go crying to someone about how their equipment or routine is better..and that is it......time to get off my soap box again....and talk iron.............

2.....POWERLIFTING PARAPHERNALIA AND TRIVIA.....

finally some winner.................the answer is PRECIOUS MCKENZIE,,,,,,,,after the 1980 ipf world's in arlington, texas...we had the privilege of listening to precious sing in the night club at the motel........he was very good...........and the winner is..........beau fay of falls church, virginia...........

i have had as late...numerous people inquire as to used equipment and gear...we do have lots of it at times.....so if you are interested...forward your needs to me and save some bucks........

and next week's trivia question is .............who wrote the very first book on powerlifting and who was in it??????

3.....POWERLIFTING ROUTINES AND INFO.....

in training for beginners one must use a little common sense.........the main exercises .....the squat...the bench press and the deadlift are good basics to start anyone on; simply because they work more muscle groups than about any other 3 lifts..........they stimulate muscle growth and help to burn bodyfat easier than any other exercises...it is amazing to see a beginner walk in the gym...pick up a 10 lb dumbell and start doing curls........not sure why or what they think that will accomplish but???????????...i gently steer them towards the bench or toward the squat rack........they may not like it but i gently point out that they joined to get results and this was the way to do it.........keep this in mind as you train younger kids...and older adults as well as any first timers............low weight....higher reps......work on form....and explain why they are doing what they are doing........it will help teach them to start to learn about writing up their own routines...........the studs you can take under wing and make them workout with you and make them so sore they will listen better the next time........always fun to watch a 20 year hot dog the day after doing 5 sets of 5 in the squats...walking like he has had??????? well you get the point///////

working out is a lifetime past time.........i started when i was just a few years old and will continue to do it til the lord comes for me..........and will continue to hit a contest or two along the way........but it is always fun to see what your proteges' can do......also....

4.....NUTRITION AND SUPPLEMENTS.....you are what you eat.....

the older you get the better you were.......but also the fatter you get or i should say the easier it is to get fat.......

diet is important in anybody's training regiment but becomes even more important the older you get............one's metabolism slows down the older you get.........and the old adage "i can gain weight just by smelling food" seems to come to life.............work on 4-5 smaller meals a day instead of the 2-3 bigger ones......lean meats like chicken and turkey and fish and eggs are great...fresh fruits and vegetables and no fruit juices or soft drinks....simple but effective.........add in your vitamins and minerals and other supplements...herbs...etc..and you are on your way....you can pick that one day a week to splurge and no harm will be done..........remember diet is important.........no matter what the age......but when you get to be 50-60-70....do you want to look and feel like it????

5.....PARTING THOUGHTS.....

WELL MY TEAM IS THE GIANTS....and i am still putting my money on them to be in the world series.........

a lot of big meets coming up all around the world in the next 6 weeks or so,,,,,,,,,it will be exciting to see what big lifts are accomplished and who are all the new champions as well as who keeps repeating.....everybody is welcome to send any pics and we will put them in the newsletter....
